Season 26 in Diablo 3 will be a bit different because in addition to craft you will see new activity in the end game. We will describe how the Echoing Nightmare Mechanics in Diablo 3 Season 26 works below.
This is the name of the challenge that you can unlock by playing Greater Rifts. In D3 Season 26 Greater Rift bosses will drop seasonal items called Petrified Scream. These items are keys to the Echoing Nightmare.
Remember that you can get the key to the Echoing Nightmare only from Greater rift bosses. When you have one Petrified Scream use it in Kanai’s Cube to summon a portal to the Echoing Nightmare challenge and face the horrors of the Nephalem’s past.
In the picture below you can see how to use a Petrified Scream in Kanai’s Cube. The portal will appear next to you.
It is worth noting that this is seasonal content and you can access it only with seasonal characters. Also, if you’d like to play with friends only one player needs one Petrified Scream to open the portal to the Echoing Nightmare. All party members can use it and play with you. But similar to boss fights in multiplayer all players will need to agree before entering the instance. While within an Echoing Nightmare, the difficulty scales as players progress in the encounter. Players can progress faster by defeating monsters quickly.
For completing the challenge you will get rewards. They are the following:
The last one Whisper of Atonement is a new seasonal Legendary Gem used exclusively for Augmenting Ancient Legendary items. It drops pre-ranked based upon the player’s performance in the Echoing Nightmare.
This is possible only during D3 Season 26 as you can get Whisper of Atonement only during this season. It is a new faster way to Augment Ancient Legendary items. As you can see it has a rank up to 150. The rank depends on your effectiveness during the Echoing Nightmare challenge. If you slay monsters fast the rank will be higher. The higher the rank the better stats will roll on the Augmented Ancient Legendary item.
The craft stays the same. You need to activate Caldesann’s Despair recipe in Kanai’s Cube but use Whisper of Atonement Legendary Gem, not any other Legendary Gem. You can see how the recipe looks below.
You place only those gems that apply the needed main stat. You can read more about Kanai’s Cube recipes in our guide. The result of the mentioned recipe is shown below.
You can see that a new line has been added to the item: +500 Intelligence (Caldesann’s Despair Rank 100). The rank depends on the Whisper of Atonement rank. So Whisper of Atonement rank 100 gives +500 to main stat on the ancient legendary item.

I was reading about the WoA, and on other site indicated: "You can level it up in a regular way through Greater Rifts." Is this info incorrect or am i just not at a high enough GR level to do it?

Tested it, yes you can level it in Greater Rifts with Urshi. But it much faster and easilier to level it in Echoing Nightmare challenge.

Urshi will upgrade whispers just like other legendary gems. Just search through them until you find it. I do not think you can see it with your gems if you have cubed it to an item, unlike socketed legendary gems. I admit that I have not tested that, yet.
