How to get Legendary Items in Wrath of the Lich King Classic

Legendary items in classic WoW are not easy to get. Besides, there are only a few of them released in every expansion. Speaking of Wrath of the Lich King Classic there are only two legendaries: Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings and Shadowmourne. In this post, we will tell you how to get them.

How to get Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings?

Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings is a mace that can be worn by Paladins, Priests, Shamans, and Druids (in retail Monks also can use them). In WotLK classic Val’anyr will be available with the release of Ulduar (probably in the second phase).

Before Val’anyr can be obtained, the Druid, Monk, Paladin, Priest, or Shaman player (who is at least level 80) must collect Fragment of Val’anyrx30 from bosses within the Ulduar raid. Fragments are not guaranteed to drop off every boss, but the chance for a fragment to drop can be increased by doing a boss on hard mode (Note: Ignis, Razorscale, and Auriaya DO NOT have hard modes).

In a few steps, you can get Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings as described below.

  1. Collect 30 x Fragment of Val’anyr from the bosses in the 25-man version of Ulduar Hard modes have higher drop chances
  2. Combine the fragments to create Shattered Fragments of Val’anyr which begins the quest chain:
    1. Ancient History
    2. Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings – Requires Unbound Fragments of Val’anyr to be “thrown” “into” Yogg-Saron while he is casting Deafening Roar (only used if 3 or fewer Keepers assist you)

This is it. After the old god has been defeated, the player must loot the quest item and return to the archivum to receive their Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings. Obtaining Val’anyr also awards the player with the Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings feat of strength.

How to get Shadowmourne?

Shadowmourne is an axe that can be worn by Paladins, Warriors, and Death Knights. In WotLK classic Shadowmourne will be available with the release in the last phase with the release of ICC (Icecrown Citadel).

To obtain and wield Shadowmourne, players must be at least level 80, friendly with The Ashen Verdict, and be a Death Knight, Paladin, or Warrior.

The following steps will let you know how to get Shadowmourne.

  1. You must be Friendly with The Ashen Verdict to accept The Sacred and the Corrupt which requires:

    • No credit if you die during the fight
  5. Blood InfusionShadow’s Edge must be equipped during the encounter
    • Requires you to be the target of Blood Mirror or Blood Mirror which will cause Gushing Wound.
    • Gushing Wound will stack every time you Vampiric Bite another player.
    • 4 stacks of Gushing Wound is required for the infusion, thus you must bite 3 times.
    • This means you must be one of the first two players with the Essence of the Blood Queen.
    • No credit if you die during the fight after Blood Mirror or Blood Mirror is applied.
  6. Frost InfusionShadow’s Edge must be equipped during the encounter
    • Requires you to be hit by Sindragosa’s Frost Breath.
    • Each breath causes Frost Infusion to stack.
    • At 4 stacks of Frost Infusion it falls off and you get the buff Frost-Imbued Blade.
    • Frost-Imbued Blade will fall off after 6 minutes, and Sindragosa must die while you have the buff.
    • No credit if you die during the fight.
  7. The Splintered Throne
    • Collect 50 x Shadowfrost Shard from 25-man mode bosses
    • Heroic mode bosses have a higher drop chance
  8. Shadowmourne…
    • Rewards Shadowmourne
  9. The Lich King’s Last Stand
    • The first kill per Shadowmourne wielder while on this quest will cause The Lich King to also drop the Sealed Chest which is only loot-able by the wielder of Shadowmourne
    • It begins the quest
      • Personal Property
        • Rewards Unsealed Chest which contains
          • Alexandros’ Soul Shard ─► Mograine’s Reunion ─► Reins of the Crimson Deathcharger
          • Jaina’s Locket ─► Jaina’s Locket ─► Jaina’s Locket
          • Arthas’ Training Sword ─► Muradin’s Lament ─► Muradin’s Favor
          • Badge of the Silver Hand ─► The Lightbringer’s Redemption ─► Tabard of the Lightbringer
          • Blood of Sylvanas ─► Sylvanas’ Vengeance ─► Sylvanas’ Music Box

The last 9th step is not a must as you get Shadowmourne at step 8. The last one just describes extra content at the end of ICC.
