The new ranked season 2021 is now live in League of Legends. We will tell you what you need to know about the new ranked system to get as high this year as you want.
New Account Placement
Now if you are playing ranked matches for the first time you will start you climb from your personal skill level but not from the default position. That means that all your performance in normal matches now will be taken into the account in the first place. This also improves match quality for everyone else since new accounts will be matched with players actually close to their skill level.
Lighter Start-of-Season Reset
Ass for the players who has been played before you will see that your starting position after the placements will be higher than usual. It means that you will be placed way closer to your last season result.
Division Promos Removed
Now you will not need to play promo matches when you climb between divisions in your tier. There will be a defined number of LP that you need to earn to automatically enter higher division (from Silver 2 to Silver 3 etc.). All the spare LP will move to the next level with you. But just as promos demote protection is also gone. SO when you reach 0 LP you will demote to the lower division.
The climb between the tiers (from Silver to Gold etc.) still have both promos and demote protection.
Ranked Informed Matchmaking
Some improvements here will improve your matchmaking. As now your teammates and opponents will come from the closest displayed rank with you, not just their MMR.
Smaller LP Gains & Losses
To avoid potential matchmaking errors the LP gains and losses will be slightly smaller this season. That happens to make everything written above work fine.
LP Mitigation
There is weekly cap of LP mitigation that will make you lose less points in case you have AFK on your team. The AFK will lose more LP and everything depends on your overall performance before he leaves the game. If you were dominating you will lose less LP, if you were far behind you may lose a normal number of LP as for a simple loss.
Immediate Master+ Unlock
You can rush for Challenger right away as all high ranked tiers are open. The number of places in Challenger tier is limited to your region.

Master+ Duo Queue Removed
Players in Master, Grandmaster, and Challenger can no longer duo queue. That will make the game more fair as it is very hard to get to the top.
Diamond Decay Changes
Diamond now uses the same banked-game decay system as Master+, though with more relaxed tuning:
- Master, Grandmaster, Challenger
- Each game played banks 1 day of activity, up to 10
- After 10 days of inactivity, you’ll begin consuming banked days
- Once all banked days have been consumed, you lose 250 LP each day until you fall out of Master
- Diamond
- Each game played banks 7 days of activity, up to 28
- After 28 days of inactivity, you’ll begin consuming banked days (this initial grace period is skipped if you decayed into Diamond from Master+)
- Once all banked days have been consumed, you lose 50 LP each day until you fall out of Diamond
So now you are all set. This season 2021 in League of Legends is going to be even better than all previous ones.
