Mages of Mystralia is a fairytale adventure game where magic is prohibited. That is the reason why the main heroine Zia faces tough times. She has a hard way to become a real magician and you are going to help her with that! Read in our Mages of Mystralia review how.
Gameplay – Mages of Mystralia Review
The game is completely tied to the storyline. But even though it is linear it doesn’t make it boring. You will plunge into a real fairy tale. There you will see amazing landscapes together with mysterious evil and treacherous monsters. Also, you will find hard (and easy) puzzles, some of them are obligatory. But other cleverly hidden and store valuables.
Magic is a key part of the Mages of Mystralia. In the very beginning of the game, there are 4 basic spells:
- Immedi (melee range magic attack)
- Actus (fire orb)
- Creo (creates ice)
- Ego (wind shield)
As you walk through the game you will open runes. With the help of these runes, you will be able to modify your spells the way you like. For example, change wind shield into a dash or create rain with your Creo spell. Locations change really fast as well as monsters and puzzles so you will need to modify your spells to fit the environment.
Graphics and Controls
The graphic causes you to love the game from the first sight. You appear in a fairyland – colourfull locations with green planes. Massive and majestic abode of mages and even simple village will encourage you to spend some extra time to enjoy the view. And when you get into the dark forest, you really get scared!
In overall, the game has comfortable and understandable controls and interface. But when it comes to fighting or puzzle-solving it becomes hard to play om gamepad. Often you do not have time to do what you intended. Or you may hit and obstacle trying to deftly cast a spell.
Sound and Narrative
Excellent musical accompaniment completely immerse the player into the game. But it is desirable to hear voiced dialogues. Mages of Mystralia would really become better with them.
As for the narrative. You are helping Zia to mater her magic powers. Along the way, trying to restore a normal attitude towards you in the village that has banished you. Other mages who are also forced to hide their talents will help you too. But to pay them back you will need to share your skills for protecting them from surrounding evil powers.
