Chris Wilson a producer and developer at Grinding Gear Games. Has explained real reasons for delaying Path of Exile 3.13 and a new league. Also, he shared some additional reasons to do so and new possible PoE 3.13 release date.
We are great fans of Path of Exile as you can see from our content. And it was much of a shock yo hear that GGG was forced to delay their expansion by the circumstances. We understood that there might be more reasons for delay then only release of Cyberpunk 2077. Though we didn’t want to share with you unproven or fake information. So now we can definitely say what has happened.
Why Path of Exile 3.13 has been delayed?
The main reason lies in marketing strategy that GGG has in mind and the previous experience of Blight league that launched near to World of Warcraft Classic.
However, in late 2019, we released the Blight league less than two weeks after WoW Classic’s launch. This had a massively negative impact on player numbers, play hours, Twitch views and revenue.Chris Wilson
This time Path of Exile may lose a lot of players due to Cyberpunk 2077 release. But they could take a risk first when the gap between the two releases was about three weeks. After Cyberpunk 2077 announced new release date the gap was 24 hours. So GGG had no choice than to move PoE 3.13 release date somewhere-somehow.
And here come two other reasons that influenced the decision. The first one is December leave for Christmas. A lot of stuff is taking long vacations for holidays and the team that stays in the office probably wouldn’t cope with the work that they have during and after new league releases. And the second one is testing bugs and fixing them. The last one shows why they couldn’t release the league before Cyberpunk 2077.
What is Path of Exile 3.13 release date?
There is no certain date for now. But there are two possible dates. So PoE 3.13 League release date might be January 8, 2021, or January 15, 2021. Even if the date will move somewhere it is definitely going to be on Friday in January 2021.
In addition, Path of Exile is preparing some events for December to comfort its fans.
For the other 50% of Path of Exile players who read all of the above and are still sad that 3.13 isn’t coming out in December, we are trying very hard to prepare interesting events for everyone to play. I’d much rather try to underpromise and overdeliver here, but we are kicking around some ideas. Bex is campaigning very hard for us to work out how to do Endless Delve, for example.Chris Wilson
To sum up we’d like to say that there was reasonable ground to delay Path of Exile new league release. And we hope the upcoming league will meet all expectations.
