In our new The Hive review you will read about the main features, gameplay and other important information about the game. You can check its Steam Page to get some extra details.
Gameplay – The Hive review
The Hive is a single player RTS game with RPG elements, in which the player will control an insectoid army in order to explore the dangerous underground world and get out to the surface. The gameplay is very familiar for RTS games of the genre – you control the workers to collect resources and build a base, at the same time hiring an army and using it to explore surroundings.
There is no multiplayer in the game, only the campaign mode is available. It consists of 10 unique mission maps with its own set of tasks and an interesting storyline. Also in there are RPG elements in The Hive. Units gain experience and new levels, improving their character sets. So they can also be equipped with various relics that will give them additional opportunities in battle.
Graphics and Controls
What catches your eye is the level of graphics. For an indie project, the graphics in the game are at a very high level. The details are well-drawn, on the maps, there are many different places in order to simply explore the area or find hidden treasures and dangerous enemies. Buildings, units and the environment complement each other perfectly.
In general, the control in the game is normal, intuitive and easy to get used to. Of the minuses, it is worth noting that the control scheme is a bit limited and it is not easy to customize it to fit your playing style.
Sound and narrative
Good sound design and a big plus – voice acting dialogues. The music is quite atmospheric, except that on its background the rest of the sounds in the game lack variety.
What confused me in the first minutes of the game. At the very beginning of the game, you see a video that humanity is forced to leave its native planet. So now it tries to find a new one for life. However, from the very first mission, we play for the insectoid hive, the only race currently available. In general, the plot is interesting, albeit linear.
