In Wrath of the Lich King Classic, two reputation factions are available for Horde and only for Alliance. Here we will tell you about the Wrath of the Lich King Classic Alliance Vanguard, which is available only for the Alliance. The most sought-after items from this faction are the Engineering plans Plans: Titanium Plating and Schematic: Mekgineer’s Chopper.
Alliance Vanguard is a group comprised of four subfactions: Explorers’ League, The Frostborn, The Silver Covenant, and Valiance Expedition. Each faction has its own base of operations within Northrend. None of the subfactions have their own quartermasters or rewards. Three of these subfactions overlap with Azeroth organizations, and one which is new to Northrend. Alliance Vanguard is based out of the main cities of Valgarde in Howling Fjord and Valiance Keep in Borean Tundra, and is home to their two Quartermasters.
Earning reputation with these subfactions contributes half that reputation value to your overall Alliance Vanguard reputation. For example, a quest that earns 250 The Frostborn reputation will also earn 125 Alliance Vanguard reputation. This also works in reverse: activities that earn direct Alliance Vanguard contribute half their reputation value to each of the subfactions.
Below you can see who needs Alliance Vanguard Faction reputation.
Other than that, the gear rewards from Alliance Vanguard are not terribly impressive, with better options available elsewhere at lower levels in most cases. The one item that could be of interest to Rogues is Sawed-off Hand Cannon, which is a decent stat stick, though not a good enough ranged weapon to be of much interest to Hunters.
Alliance Vanguard (and its Horde equivalent Horde Expedition) accumulates reputation differently than any other faction.
There is only one quest that gives direct Alliance Vanguard experience – Honor Above All Else, and it only gives 10 reputation. The primary way you earn Alliance Vanguard is through doing dungeons in Heroic mode.
Neither Alliance Vanguard nor any of its subfactions have tabards. You get Alliance Vanguard by not wearing a tabard, either in any WoTLK Heroic dungeon or in one of four selected Normal dungeons.
Doing any Heroic WoTLK-era dungeons without wearing any other faction’s tabard gains reputation with Alliance Vanguard. The other four subfactions will gain passive spillover reputation — they will earn half the reputation gained by Alliance Vanguard. So, for example, if you complete a Heroic dungeon and gain 2,628 reputation with Alliance Vanguard, the other four subfactions will earn about 1,314 reputation each (give or take a point depending on the hidden fractions and rounding).
Four other dungeons can be completed on Normal difficulty without wearing a tabard. These are:
However, doing one of these four dungeons on Normal will earn about 1/4 of the reputation you would earn doing any dungeon on Heroic.

Base of Operations: Borean Tundra
Valiance Expedition, the main armies of the Alliance in Northrend, moves against the Scourge and is unified under King Varian Wrynn’s command. Their Alliance forces command the Strand of the Ancients. While their main base is in Valiance Keep in Borean Tundra, they also have bases in Howling Fjord (Valgarde and Westguard Keep) and Dragonblight (Wintergarde Keep and Fordragon Hold).
Raising Valiance Expedition Faction
There are over 250 quests in Howling Fjord, Borean Tundra, Dragonblight, Grizzly Hills, and Icecrown that give Valiance Expedition reputation. There really isn’t much reason to go out of your way to build it, since this is one you’ll earn naturally as you level. If you really want to build this reputation, you should plan to go through all the quests on both of these low-level zones. In Icecrown, Valiance Expedition reputation comes primarily from quests that come from the Skybreaker airship. This is also where the Icecrown dailies come from.

Explorers’ League is an organization dedicated to researching the origin of the Dwarven race. Exploring nearly every corner of the world searching for Titan artifacts, they have amassed one of the world’s largest libraries of information on Azeroth’s history, people and cultures. Formed along with its fellow allies, the League is a member of the Alliance Vanguard to help bring down the Lich King. Their main base of operations is in Ironforge, led by King Magni Bronzebeard, while their Northrend base is located in Howling Fjord.
Raising Explorers’ League Faction
There are 36 quests in Howling Fjord and Storm Peaks, along with the daily Steel Gate Patrol in Howling Fjord.
You begin to gain reputation with Explorers’ League after completing your first quest line out of Valgarde and are sent to the Explorer’s League Outpost in eastern Howling Fjord. Most quest lines out of Explorer’s League Outpost, Fort Wildevar, and Westguard Keep give reputation with both Explorers’ League and Valiance Expedition.
There are also some quests for Explorers’ League out of Frosthold in Storm Peaks, starting with the quest Sniffing Out the Perpetrator.
To open the daily quest Steel Gate Patrol, start with the quest line See to the Operations with Overseer Irena Stonemantle at /way 30.2 28.6, north of Westguard Keep. Complete the next quest, I’ve Got a Flying Machine!, and this opens Steel Gate Patrol, which awards 250 reputation with Explorers’ League.

The Frostborn are a faction of a newly discovered dwarf, the frost dwarves. This mysterious race of dwarves have their home base located at Frosthold in The Storm Peaks, and are led by Yorg Stormheart, King of the Frostborn. Along with welcoming any Alliance within their settlements, they’ve recently befriended members of the Alliance Vanguard to join and oppose the Lich King.
Raising The Frostborn Faction
There are 15 quests to complete, plus one daily quest, Pushed Too Far, all in Storm Peaks.
Players wishing to build Frostborn reputation should make sure to do every quest out of Frosthold in Storm Peaks. There is also a line of these quests that will take you out to the Foot Steppes in central Storm Peaks, but nearly all of them are out of or around Frosthold.
There is one daily quest, Pushed Too Far, out of Frosthold in Storm Peaks. This is unlocked through a very long line of quests, most of which include the other quests that give Frosthold reputation. The best summary for this is in this section of the comments on this quest, where it’s been confirmed by other players that this quest unlocks around Step 56 (as I said, a very long line!).

The Silver Covenant is a militant core of high elves that reject the admission of blood elves into the Kirin Tor. They have united under the banner of Vereesa Windrunner and joined the Alliance Vanguard to oppose the Lich King. The Covenant control the Alliance district of Dalaran, the Silver Enclave. The guards they employ are Silver Covenant Guardian Mages, who will expel Horde players once they get too close to the Alliance district.
Raising The Silver Covenant Faction
The only way to raise Silver Covenant reputation at this time is through passive spillover reputation from building Alliance Vanguard in Heroic dungeons. In Phase 3 with the introduction of the Argent Tournament, you will be able to build reputation doing activities there.
When you reach an appropriate level of reputation you can buy rewards from NPCs:
