All WoW Burning Crusade Classic Mounts and How to Get Them

WoW TBC classic is a special place for mounts, this was the first time you could own a flying mount so there are plenty of new fantastic mounts to obtain. Here you will learn about all WoW Burning Crusade Classic Mounts and How to Get Them.

Even though flying mounts are only usable in Outland you will find them really useful. And also because of the same fact you will need both flying and running mounts. Of course, you can purchase standard ones, but also you can find other special and rare mounts.

Mount Training in The Burning Crusade

To get the Flying Mount skill, you have to visit your trainer in either Shadowmoon Valley.

Flying will cost:

  • Expert Riding – 60% flying speed – 800g
  • Artisan Riding – 280% flying speed – 5000g
  • 310% flying – Either have the Ashes of A’lar or a Gladiator Mount

Below you will find the list of all TBC mounts but grouped by the way you acquire them.

The Burning Crusade Racial Mounts

With two new races coming in The Burning Crusade, the Blood Elves and Draenei, we are getting the usual racial mounts that every race gets, such as Kodo or Horses. These mounts are available at level 40 and 60 mount skill.

  • Hawkstrider – Blood Elves
  • Elekk – Draenei

You can buy Hawkstriders from Winaestra in Eversong Woods. The cost for Rare = 1 gold / Epic = 10 gold (before reputation discounts). Blood Elf racial mount. If you are not a Blood Elf, you will need to be Exalted with Silvermoon City to purchase.

Elekks can be bought from Torallius the Pack Handler on Azuremyst Isle for Rare = 1 gold / Epic = 10 gold (before reputation discounts). Draenei racial mount. If you are not a Draenei, you will need to be Exalted with The Exodar to purchase.

These are two new racial mounts added in TBC, other racial mounts are the same from WoW Classic we will not describe them. Also, Hawkstriders and Elekks come in different colours and speeds. Hot to get swift versions read further in the post.

The Burning Crusade Dungeon Mounts

The Burning Crusade’s dungeon mounts are among some of the most iconic dungeon mounts in the game. The Zul’ Aman bear was removed in Wrath of the Lich King, making it a very rare mount to see on retail. The Raven Lord mount is still very sort after too, as it has a very unique appearance.

Reins of the Raven Lord

Drops off: Anzu – Sethekk Halls – Heroic

Anzu the Raven God is a boss in Sethekk Halls appearing on Heroic difficulty only (click on the name of the dungeon to learn how to unlock heroic difficulty). He used to be able to be summoned only by the druid class but now appears in the centre of the room for all players. He drops the rare mount, Reins of the Raven Lord.

Unlike regular flying, which is directly learned from a class trainer, swift flight requires an extensive quest chain to unlock. To start the chain, talk to any  Druid class trainer after training  Artisan Riding, and accept the quest  Morthis Whisperwing. The subsequent very long quest chain eventually leads to the quest  Vanquish the Raven God, which requires you to kill Anzu, a new summonable boss in the Sethekk Halls dungeon. When victorious, you are finally awarded

  1. the Swift Flight Form spell,
  2. the Charm of Swift Flight trinket (the Druid equivalent of Riding Crop), and
  3. Idol of the Raven Goddess, which is a best in slot Idol for Feral Druids in a raid setting.

After completing this quest chain, you will be able to summon Anzu at any time in the future, similar to the Tier 0.5 bosses in vanilla. This can become a lucrative income source for Druids, since Anzu drops the extremely rare mount Reins of the Raven Lord, and a Druid is required to summon the boss.

Swift White Hawkstrider

Drops off: Kael’thas Sunstrider – Magister’s Terrace

Kael’thas Sunstrider is the final boss within Magisters’ Terrace. Although believed to have been defeated in The Eye, Kael’thas has been kept alive by a green crystal embedded within his chest. He has a chance to drop Phoenix Hatchling and Swift White Hawkstrider, two popular vanity items for collectors.

Amani War Bear

Drops off: 100% drop – Timed Run – Zul’ Aman (raid in TBC phase 4)

From completing the Zul’ Aman timed even in the time given. Each boss adds more time to the clock.

The Burning Crusade Raid Mounts

One of The Burning Crusade’s most notable mounts – The Ashes of Al’ar – drops from The Eye raid. Obtaining this mount will surely make you the envy of every person on the server – and fly at 310% speed.

Ashes of Al’ar

Drops off: Kael’thas Sunstrider – The Eye (Tempest Keep)

Ashes of Al’ar is an ultra rare drop off of Kael’thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep.

The first-ever Ashes of Al’ar was given away to Ezra Chatterton, who went to Blizzard’s offices with the Make-A-Wish foundation. Ezra was given the first-ever Phoenix mount in-game. This mount is the only PvE mount in TBC to fly at 310% speed.

Fiery Warhorse’s Reins

Drops off: Attumen the Huntsman – Karazhan
Drop Chance: 0.87%

You can read how to get to Karazhan in our post – How to get Attunement to Karazhan? – WoW Burning Crusade Classic.

The Burning Crusade World Event Mounts

These World Event mounts are only available during a short period of time, when the World Event occurs. These match up with real life holidays such as Octoberfest, and Halloween. If you’re a dedicated mount collector, make sure to farm these mounts during the events! Notably, the Brewfest Ram, was removed from retail servers and made a Legacy Mount after the first Brewfest Event – we don’t know if this will happen in TBC.

The Horseman’s Reins

Drops off: The Headless Horseman
World Event: Hallows End
Notes: An event during Hallows end, simply kill The Headless Horseman within SM Cathedral. This mount scales to your riding skill. Note, unlike on the retail event, The Headless Horseman can be endlessly farmed for the mount, there is no lockouts or daily restrictions.

Great Brewfest Kodo

Drops off: Coren Direbrew
World Event: Brewfest

Swift Brewfest Ram

Purchased From: Swift Brewfest Ram (100g)
World Event: Brewfest
Notes: You have to obtain Swift Brewfest Ram to purchase both the swift and normal versions of this mount. This mount does not drop off Coren Direbrew, and can only be obtained with the tickets during the event.

Brewfest Ram

World Event: Brewfest
Notes: You have to obtain Swift Brewfest Ram to purchase both the swift and normal versions of this mount. This mount does not drop off Coren Direbrew, and can only be obtained with the tickets during the event.

The Burning Crusade Reputation Mounts

Some of the most iconic Burning Crusade mounts are the reputation mounts. The Netherwing Drakes were the first-ever dragon mounts in the game, and are a must for any player looking to stand out. These rep grinds are either tied to dailies or an uncapped time rep grind. To learn more about farming reputation read our post – WoW Burning Crusade Classic Reputation and Factions List.

Cenarion War Hippogryph

Reputation: Cenarion Expedition – Exalted
Cost: 2000g before reputation discounts

This mount can be purchased for 1,700 from Fedryen Swiftspear after obtaining Exalted reputation with the Cenarion Expedition. The Cenarion War Hippogryph is a unique, Epic-speed Hippogryph mount.

Netherwing Drakes

Mount: Reins of the Azure Netherwing Drake, Reins of the Onyx Netherwing Drake, Reins of the Violet Netherwing Drake, Reins of the Purple Netherwing Drake, Reins of the Veridian Netherwing Drake, Reins of the Cobalt Netherwing Drake
ReputationNetherwing
Cost: First one free / 200g thereafter

You get a free Drake at Exalted with Netherwing. To reach Exalted, simply do the daily quests in the Netherwing area in south Shadowmoon Valley every day. You can speed up obtaining Exalted by finding Netherwing Egg, which can be found in the open world (mostly in the Netherwing mines), or rarely by defeating creatures, or by mining and herbalism. Exalted should take you approximately 2-3 weeks, possibly more if there is a lot of egg competition. See Flying “On Wings of Nether” for a more comprehensive overlook.

Talbuks

Mount: Reins of the Cobalt Riding Talbuk, Reins of the White Riding Talbuk, Reins of the Tan Riding Talbuk, Reins of the Silver Riding Talbuk, Reins of the Cobalt War Talbuk, Reins of the White War Talbuk, Reins of the Tan War Talbuk, Reins of the Silver War Talbuk
ReputationThe Mag’har (H)/The Kurenai (A)
Cost: 56g normal / 80g swift

These Talbuks come in many colours! This rep grind is done by farming beads and handing in the repeatable quest More Warbeads. The beads drop off the ogres within Nagrand. The White War Talbuk is so differently coloured as the purple horns were a graphical error. Blizzard decided it looked cool enough to keep the graphical error as a feature.

Nether Rays

Mount: Blue Riding Nether Ray, Red Riding Nether Ray, Green Riding Nether Ray, Silver Riding Nether Ray, Purple Riding Nether Ray
ReputationSha’tari Skyguard
Cost: 160g

To get Sha’tari Skyguard reputation, you simply kill enemies around the Sha’tari Skyguard area. You will need to fly to access the Sha’tari Skyguard area or be summoned there. For a more comprehensive overview, see the guide, Nether Ray in a Day. This item can be purchased in Terokkar Forest.
