Monster Sanctuary Review

Monster Sanctuary is an indie game that is available in early access on Steam now. It is developed by Moi Rai Games a newly created team that works on this very project. As for the publisher, it is a well known Team17 Digital Ltd, which also published My time at Portia, which we often write about on our blog.

So Monster Sanctuary is an adventure role play game with 2D pixel graphics, which we score around 7/10 points. We evaluate games by five parameters such as gameplay, graphics, controls, sound and narrative. Further, we explain each score for Monster Sanctuary.

Monster Sanctuary Gameplay

This turn-based RPG with an open world turned out to be very interesting and with a new approach. Here you’ll collect monsters as loot from mobs. After you kill a monster there is a chance to get an egg of this specific monster. After that, you can activate the egg and use a newly come monster as your familiar. It will fight for you and even perform some special actions to get you through the world. Such as lightning dark rooms or breaking secret doors.

Moreover, you can create a party of monsters. Three can be active during the fight other three are in a backup. You can swap between your monsters to adjust the team to the fight conditions.

Also, you can equip your monsters with weapons and 3-4 accessories to raise their characteristics. Besides, you can feed them to permanently increase their characteristics.

Moreover, in advantage to all of that monsters can level up and get talent points with every new level. Each monster has its own talent tree. There you choose abilities for the monster from 4 categories. Because of such variety, you can create unique monsters even within one type. For example, put points only in support spells or vice versa in damage spells.

Ans the most fascinating thing is that further in-game you can transform your monsters by making them light-shift, dark-shift or even evolution them to higher types.

Monster Sanctuary Graphics

The game has very decent detailed 2D graphics. Even though the game has pixel graphics. Monsters and other actions are made with great animation.

Monster Sanctuary Controls

Controls are rather comfortable. Though you may face some difficulties with scrolling items during the craft.

Sound and Narrative

While playing you will hear pleasant and relaxing music and in-game sounds. As for the narrative. The game has a simple and linear storyline. Still, Monster Sanctuary is not complete yet and some storyline parts or areas are still blocked.

To sum up, we can say that the game is very decent and we would like to see it complete and play with pleasure.

If you liked our review, please, share it with your friends or leave comments, we love your feedback!

Summary:
Our reviews are based on five criteria that allow us to give the most accurate assessment of the game. Gameplay displays the main features of the game, mechanics and overall player’s game interaction. Narrative reveals the main storyline, well-written dialogue and the impact of the player’s actions on the world around them, as well as the atmosphere. Graphics shows how well a game looks visually, regardless of type and perspectives. Sound is how well the dialogue and sounds of the game are sounded, as well as how the music and soundtracks accompany the game. Last but not least, Controls are how comfortable they are and allow the player to expect full control over their character.
