Overwatch 2: Wide Groups and Narrow Groups Explained

Prior to Overwatch 2 Season 10, there were restrictions on how players could join groups depending on their rank. To successfully team up, each player on the team had to have at least one role in the same SR range as all team members. With the introduction of Season 10, the rank restrictions were completely overhauled, allowing players of all skill levels to team up. To help with these sweeping changes, two new labels were introduced, ” Wide Group” and “Narrow Group”.

In Overwatch 2, Wide groups will have a greater range of ranks in their games, as well as less impact on their rank in the event of a loss or win. Wide groups can be made up of duos, trios, or fives, and players in a wide group can only play against other players in the wide group.

In contrast, Narrow groups consist of single players and random groups within a limited range of ranks, as they are designed to prevent these players from facing enemy groups that have stronger team synergy and coordination. Similar to wide groups that have a larger range of ranks in each game, narrow groups tend to have a much smaller range of ranks, usually no more than a few divisions.
