Torchlight 2 Classes Guide

Torchlight 2 is a pretty old game, but still, there are a lot of fans who loves the game. I have been playing all Torchlight parts since the first one, so this post is a bit nostalgic. In any case, I am doing it for my friends who asked for this Torchlight 2 Classes guide. So lest cover this topic now.

First of all, we have already written several posts about Torchlight, including Torchlight 2 review. You can check it out to learn more about the game if you haven’t played it yet.

Torchlight 2 Classes list

There are four classes in Torchlight 2. Those are:

  • Outlander
  • Embermage
  • Engineer
  • Berserker

Each of them has a unique style and abilities. Compearing to modern games Torchlight skill tree is very simple, so there shouldn’t be any difficulties even for new players.

Torchlight 2 Classes description

Now let’s have a better look at all the classes.

Outlander

Outlander’s main stat is Dexterity. You can make a good ranger out of it.

Stats on the first level:

  • Strength 10
  • Dexterity 15
  • Focus 10
  • Vitality 5

In Torchlight Outlanders are not that good guys. All their group contains pirates, thieves and other outlaws. Now there are more like treasure hunters.

The Outlander has got three skill trees. The first one is Warfare, which consists of ranged-weapon skills and glaive. The other one is Lore, which orientates on attack spells and makes glaive unequipped weapons. And the last one is Sigil with summoning spells and debuffs.

I decided not to include all the abilities descriptions in this guide. But if you o want to read them check wiki via this link.

Some tips to make a good Outlander build. If you choose to level in Warfare, I’d recommend using shotguns (shotgonne) and bows. They do very well with Rapid Fire ability. If you are the one who loves playing with wands, then pick Long Range Mastery (Warfare passive skill) and Master of the Elements from the Sigil passive skills. Don’t forget to choose a high focus build in that case.

Also, if you chose to play with crossbows or bows you can choose Blade Pact from the Sigil ability skills. As a ranged class Outlander needs some support in tanking mobs. So in order to do that, you can take Death Ritual (Sigil active ability) and Shadowling Ammo (Sigil passive skill).

Moreover, keep in mind that upon levelling up your main stats don’t forget to gain balance between dexterity and strength. Don’t put all your points into dexterity as it won’t make your damage much higher. For that you need strength. And dexterity must come with a high dodge chance.

Embermage

Embermage’s main stat is Focus. Naturally, she will be a great mage.

Stats on the first level:

  • Strength 5
  • Dexterity 10
  • Focus 15
  • Vitality 10

In spite of their name, they are still mages that use mana for spells.

There are three skill trees for Embermages: InfernoFrost, and Storm. All the skills descriptions you can read here.

Embermage is a very versatile class. Your build mainly depends on your game style. I can outline some of the useful skills further. If you want to deal a lot of damage you might like the Inferno skill tree. There you’ll find such great skills as Magma Spear, Infernal Collapse, Magma Mace, Firestorm, Fire Brand, and Charge Mastery. Try to combine those active and passive skills to demolish your enemies.

As for the frost branch, it is more about control. Useful skills are Icy Blast, Hailstorm, Frost Wave, Infernal Collapse or Thunder Locus. Also, Frost Wave, Astral Ally, Frozen Fate, Staff Mastery, Icy Blast, and Frost Phase. Most of them have Area effects, which can be useful if you play at a party.

The storm is another damage skill tree. But the mechanics are a bit different. So focus on such skills as Prismatic Bolt, Elemental Attunement, Thunder Locus, Death’s Bounty, Shocking Orb, Hailstorm and Prismatic Rift.

Again your aim is to fire balance between supportive and damaging skills.

Engineer

Unlike others, Engineer has got two main stats: Strength and Vitality.

Stats on the first level:

  • Strength 15
  • Dexterity 5
  • Focus 5
  • Vitality 15

Engineers are strong and smart. They can design technological upgrades and towers to help them in battle. Usually, they fight with heavy weapons.

The Engineer’s skill trees: BlitzConstruction, and Aegis. the first one will is for those who like to fight in melee with a two-handed weapon. The second one is all about technologies as you can summon bots and fight with grenades and cannons. And the last one is all about defence and shields.

All Engineer’s skills you can be read through the link.

Some tips to make a good Engineer build. Traditionally the best part for him is tanking, especially if you play with your friends, But there are also some variations to make him deal a lot of damage. The best skills that you should consider adding to your build: Forcefield, Ember Hammer, Flame Hammer, Blast Cannon, Fusillade. If you decide to level up Focus, then use such skills as Fire and Spark. As in any other classes, you need to find a balance between stats. For Engineer between strength and defence. Sword and Board and Shield Bash can help with that.

Let’s continue our Torchlight 2 Classes guide and get to the last but not least class.

Berserker

Berserker similar to Engineer has two main stats: Strength and Dexterity.

Stats on the first level:

  • Strength 15
  • Dexterity 15
  • Focus 5
  • Vitality 5

Berserkers are outrageous warriors. They seek the fight not only for loot but also for fun. Extremely dangerous guys.

Naturally, he also has three skill trees which are: HunterTundra, and Shadow. The first one is for melee fighter classes. The second one combines fros and lightning skills. And the last one will allow you to summon shadow wolves and other creatures.

So this is it a Torchlight 2 Classes guide. I hope you find it useful and informative. Good luck with your adventures.
