Kirin Tor Reputation can be gained by any faction. You will find them in Dalaran in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. You will learn here how to gain reputation with Kirin Tor by all the possible means.

What is Kirin Tor in Wrath of the Lich King Classic?

Stationed in Dalaran, Kirin Tor is a sect of wizards that study and record all of humanity’s magic and artifacts. They are also charged with the protection of the city, but once failed to prevent Archimonde from destroying the city, who was summoned by defected Kirin Tor member Kel’Thuzad. The remaining members of the Kirin Tor were determined to salvage the ruins and reclaim their once magnificent city. The members of Kirin Tor are now cautious about who is let into their organization in fear of more defections.

Mages have an advantage in that they all start out Friendly with Kirin Tor, due to their affinity with the arcane arts.

Who Needs Kirin Tor Faction Reputation?

Kirin Tor faction is useful for those who wish to purchase the head enchants Arcanum of the Flame’s Soul and Arcanum of Burning Mysteries. There is also a very good Tailoring pattern, Pattern: Sapphire Spellthread, and a Jewelcrafting pattern, Design: Runed Scarlet Ruby.

The upgradable Kirin Tor rings such as Ring of the Kirin Tor sold by Harold Winston in Dalaran do not require Kirin Tor faction to purchase. Still, higher Kirin Tor reputation levels do make them less expensive to buy and upgrade.

Mages will also be interested in the Robes of Crackling Flame, which is a good alternative to the expensive crafted Spellweave Robe robe. The blue items are mostly solid contenders for pre-raid items.

How to gain reputation with Kirin Tor?

There are several ways to improve your reputation with Kirin Tor, including Quest Lines, Daily Quests, and Tabards/Dungeons. There are not a great many one-time quests for Kirin Tor, and all those that exist are found in Borean Tundra, Dragonblight, and Dalaran.

Borean Tundra Quest Lines

There is a breadcrumb to the Amber Ledge quests that starts with Endorah in Warsong Hold:

There is also a side quest line out of Amber Ledge for monitoring the rift from Librarian Garren:

Once you have reached Transitus Shield at Coldarra, there are a couple more that will give Kirin Tor reputation:

After this point, quests in Coldarra switch to The Wyrmrest Accord reputation.

Dragonblight Quest Lines

Dragonblight Kirin Tor quests are based out of Star’s Rest for Alliance and Agmar’s Hammer for Horde. The quest objectives are the same, but the quest givers/turn-ins will be different.

Alliance Quests:

Horde Quests:

In Prevent the Accord/Prevent the Accord, you will be required to kill an NPC called Goramosh. In addition to dropping the item you need for this quest, he will drop Goramosh’s Strange Device/Goramosh’s Strange Device. This is what starts the quest A Strange Device/A Strange Device. You must be on Prevent the Accord for this item to drop, so pay attention.

Dalaran Quest Lines

Most of the Dalaran-based quests that give Kirin Tor reputation are repeatable profession dailies, as detailed below. For being the base of operations for the Kirin Tor, you’d expect to find more of them here. However, there are just a few.

The quest that actually allows you to travel to Dalaran for the first time (unless you’ve gotten a port there from an obliging mage) is offered at level 74, and awards Kirin Tor rep.

The Magical Kingdom of Dalaran is the Alliance version, and The Magical Kingdom of Dalaran is the Horde version. You can pick this quest up from many different quest givers. IMPORTANT: Read the quest text before you run off! You must click on the quest giver and use the dialogue to request a port.

This quest only gives 10 reputation for Kirin Tor, as does its followup, Learning to Leave and Return: the Magical Way, where you learn to teleport down to Crystalsong Forest and back.

There is also a one-time Alchemy quest, Cardinal Ruby, from Linzy Blackbolt in the Dalaran sewers that teaches Transmute: Cardinal Ruby. Alchemists can gain this quest once they have reached Alchemy skill 450.

Daily Quests

The daily quests for Cooking, Fishing, and Jewelcrafting out of Dalaran all give Kirin Tor reputation. The Fishing dailies give 250 reputation, the Cooking dailies give 150 reputation, and the Jewelcrafting dailies give 25 reputation.

The daily dungeon quests offered by Archmage Timear in Dalaran also award 75 reputation with Kirin Tor, as well as offering Kirin Tor Commendation Badge as one of many commendation badge options. See more information below under Commendation Badges.

Commendation Badges

Kirin Tor Commendation Badges can be clicked to increase your Kirin Tor reputation by 520. They are bind on pickup, so you cannot purchase or trade these items. Archmage Timear in Dalaran (near Violet Hold, /way 64.2 54.4) gives one of four daily dungeon quests, and the Kirin Tor Commendation Badge are just one of the commendation badge options you can choose as your reward. Completing all four quests awards the achievement Timear Foresees. The minimum level for these quests is 78, and these quests also offer 75 Kirin Tor reputation.

Tabards and Dungeons

At Friendly reputation, you can purchase the Tabard of the Kirin Tor from the Quartermaster. Wearing this in level 80 Heroic dungeons will channel all reputation gains to Kirin Tor instead of to Alliance Vanguard or Horde Expedition.

You can also run the following level 80 dungeons on Normal with the tabard, but you’ll earn less reputation than if you run them on Heroic:

• Halls of Lightning
• The Culling of Stratholme
• The Oculus
• Utgarde Pinnacle

Gaining Exalted with Kirin Tor earns the achievement The Kirin Tor. It also contributes to one of the four reputations required for Northrend Vanguard.

Kirin Tor also counts toward achievements for multiple reputations, such as 40 Exalted Reputations, which earns the title “the Exalted”.
