Geo Element Genshin Impact

There are seven elements in Genshin Impact that form gameplay. The game is based on elemental reactions and different combinations that support your fighting performance. Geo is one of the first active elements added to the game. This post will tell you how the Geo element works in Genshin Impact.

What element is Geo?

Geo is a supportive element that mainly provides you with shields and defence. Geo doesn’t trigger reactions with all other six elements though. Below you can see the Geo resonance effects and all Geo reactions.

It is also worth knowing about the distinguishing symbols of the Geo element. This is the icon and the colour. We will use them in this and future posts to denote the Geo element.

Also, each element in Genshin Impact has its own zone and archon. The homeland of the Geo element is Liyue and the name of the archon is Morax, we know him as Zhongli.

Geo Resonance

Elemental Resonance activates in Genshin Impact when you have at least two characters with the same active element. Depending on the element it activates the relevant resonance and specific bonuses. The Geo Resonance is the following:

  • Enduring Rock: Increases shield strength by 15%. Additionally, characters protected by a shield will have the following special characteristics: DMG dealt increased by 15%, dealing DMG to enemies will decrease their Geo RES by 20% for 15s.

This makes Geo Resonance useful for tanky melee teams.

Geo Reactions

Each element in Genshin Impact has specific elements reactions that determine its gameplay options. Different carriers of the corresponding element use it differently, which also affects the style of play, but the reactions themselves have certain invariable effects regardless of the game character.

Geo has Elemental Reactions with the elements Electro, Pyro, Hydro and Cryo. In all cases the reaction is Crystallize.

  • Crystallize: Creates a shard of the involved element. Picking it up creates a shield of that element around the character.

As you see Geo element trigger reactions only with four elements: Electro , Hydro, Cryo and Pyro and it always Crystallize that creates relative shields.

Geo Status

Similar to Anemo, Geo is ephemeral and will either react immediately with pre-applied elements or disappear instantly after application if no other elements are applied when applied to an enemy. However, Geo Hypostasis, as well as Stonehide Lawachurl Stonehide Lawachurl and Large Geo Slime whilst their shields, are active have a perpetual Geo status applied to them, but it cannot react with other elements to trigger Crystallize.

Another exception exists: Zhongli‘s Elemental Burst, Planet Befall, is capable of applying a persistent Geo status effect for the duration of his Petrification. This Geo status has the following properties:

  • The Geo gauge has 0.04 gauge units.
  • The Geo gauge does not decay over time. When the petrified ends, the status is fully removed.
  • Does not react with other elements.
