When you click on one of the icons above you will scroll to the list of those Genshin Impact characters that use that element.

How to get Genshin Impact Characters?

There are 44 playable characters in Genshin Impact right now, but more have been announced to be added to the game soon. You will start playing for one of the siblings called the Traveler, after that, you will get some of the characters for free as you complete quests and the storyline. But most part of the Genshin Impact characters you can get from Gachas. The Gacha system is presented by wishes and you will need to use Intertwined Fates or Acquaint Fates (purchased with Primogems though also available through Events, Quests or exchanged monthly for Masterless Stardust or Masterless Starglitter at Paimon’s Bargains) to roll them.

In the first 10 Wish in the Beginners’ Wish that you’ll need to do to complete one of the introductory quests Noelle is a guaranteed character.

Also, there are other ways to get guaranteed champions in Genshin Impact. The first one is to complete Archon Quests in order to obtain:

  • Amber
  • Kaeya
  • Lisa

You will see these quests in the Prologue.

Also, you can get characters for participating in Permanent Events:

  • Barbara in Baptism of Song event
  • Xiangling in Spiral Abyss Event – People’s Choice event

There are also time-limited events in Genshin Impact where you can get other characters for performing wishes. You can see all the details about the current event in the game. The banner that you can see when you enter the wishes screen shows you the champions that you can get now in wishes.

In addition, you can exchange 34 Masterless Starglitter in the monthly Paimon’s Bargains shop for Two 4-star characters.

All characters in Genshin Impact can be levelled up and upgraded by Ascensions and Constellations. We will let you know more about it in the upcoming post. But levels and upgrades are not the only important things to pay attention to. There are also, different items called artifacts that will influence your character in a fight. And of course, there are five different types of weapons that your characters can use. You can see the description of them below.

  • Sword attacks are the middle ground of melee weapons, the damage of their hits and speed of their attacks are somewhere in between the slow attacks of Claymores and the rapid attacks of Polearms.
  • Claymores restrict the character wielding it to slower hits than other melee weapons but deal much more damage per swing. They also have a damage bonus towards breaking Geo objects, like a monster’s shield.
  • Polearms have the fastest attacks of all the weapons and good forward reach.
  • Due to their magical nature, all Normal and Charged attacks performed with a Catalyst are considered elemental damage. The element of the damage depends on the wielder’s natural element/vision.
  • Bows boast long-ranged attacks in the game, with Charged Attacks that are capable of hitting monsters as far as the eye can see with the proper aim.

All weapons have a rarity ranging from 1-star to 5-stars. They have the same Gacha system as characters. Each time you perform a wish you have a chance to get a five-start weapon.

Genshin Impact Characters Full List

Below you can see the table with all playable characters in Genshin Impact. All of them use only one element but one. The Traveler is an Adaptive character that can change elements in different regions. For now, you can play with Anemo, Geo and Electro.

As you can see there are two types of characters five-star and four-star characters in Genshin Impact. But all of that is great and can be useful in different Genshim Impact comp and combos. You can learn more in Genshin Impact Characters Tier List – How to Build Your Team.

The Traveler

When you start playing Genshin impact you will see that you play for one of the two default characters. You will need to choose between male and female characters and start your journey. Their actual names are Aether and Lumine, but in the game, they are referred to as The Traveler. You will be asked to write a name, which will work as a nickname, but you won’t see it in dialogues. The Traveler is the very first free five-start character that you get in Genshin Impact. All quests and plots it developing around him or her, and even if your comp doesn’t contain Traveler you’ll still see him in the cutscenes accompanied by Paimon.

You will start the game unaligned, which is a special elemental relation that you’ll have until you interact with the first God Statue. When unaligned, screens that show character cards with their elements show a grey “no” symbol (︎) in the place of the element symbol. But after you interact with the first Statue of The Seven in Mondstadt you will unlock the first elemental relation for The Traveler which is Anemo. The Traveler can resonate with any other Statue of The Seven they find and change their element to match the statue’s element and the next one is Geo, Electro, Dendro and Hydro.

There are only five available elements right now and each of them has personal Talents and Constellations as well as optimal build and the best Team Comps, which you can check out via the links below.
