How to Build Genshin Impact Wriothesley Team?

Wriothesley is a 5-star Cryo character in Genshin Impact that was released in October 2023. He is also referred to as Lord of the Fortress of Meropide. The name of the banner associated with Wriothesley’s release is Tempestuous Destiny. This is an event banner and thus Wriothesley can be obtained only when this banner is active. In this post, you will learn how to build the Genshin Impact Wriothesley team from the characters that you own. In addition, you will see the most popular builds for Wriothesley.

Before we start note that this post is not a build guide for Wriothesley and doesn’t contain all information about him. You can expect only the Wriothesley team comps focus. That will help you understand how to make a good team for Genshin Impact Wriothesley even with the characters that you have. Of course, we include Genshin free-to-play comps for Wriothesley as well. If you need more information you can read the guide by the link below.

Wriothesley Talents

What is most important when you make a team comp in Genshin Impact is to remember that your characters must work together. Their talents need to assist each other and only via reactions. Some characters have talents that will change the whole impression about them when you see their talents.

Like any other character, Wriothesley has two types of talents – active and passive. The whole description of Wriothesley’s skills (talents) you can read via the link. In this post, we focus on the basic strategies and will explain what Wriothesley talents are worth paying attention to. Let’s start with talent priority for Wriothesley.

Talent Priority for Wriothesley

Forceful Fists of Frost > Icefang Rush > Darkgold Wolfbite

Forceful Fists of Frost is Wriothesley’s Normal Attack. Wriothesley’s Normal and Charged Attacks are the main focus of his kit, dishing out the majority of his damage. His attacks are short-ranged but hit in a modest AoE.

Icefang Rush is Wriothesley’s Elemental Skill. Wriothesley’s Skill has several functions:

  • Increasing the damage dealt by his Normal Attacks.
  • Causing enhanced Normal Attacks to generate a Cryo Particle every 2s.
  • Slightly reducing his HP with every Normal Attack hit. This HP drain allows him to consistently activate buffs that require HP changes such as 4pc Marechaussee Hunter’s set effect.
  • Increasing his interruption resistance; however, he is still vulnerable to stagger from heavier enemy attacks. A shielder can help alleviate the need to dash to avoid getting staggered.

The first three effects only apply if Wriothesley is above 50% HP, so healing from his teammates or A1 Passive is required for his Skill to function over multiple rotations. His combos can be HP-negative without C1, so a healer is necessary to maintain 100% Skill uptime at C0.

Darkgold Wolfbite is Wriothesley’s Elemental Burst. A straightforward Burst of AoE damage that hits 5 times. It is generally best to use it towards the end of Wriothesley’s field time to benefit from his A4 Passive (and C2) and to not waste buff uptime on his Skill. However, this means that the Burst usually does not benefit from buffs, making it less important to overall damage.

Wriothesley Ascension Passives

The other important thing is to know how exactly character ascension enhances them and what advantages you can get out of it for your team-building strategy. We want to attract your attention to the following Wriothesley Ascension Passives.

There Shall Be a Plea for Justice

1st Ascension Passive

If Wriothesley’s HP falls below 60%, his next Charged Attack has increased damage, no Stamina cost, and a self-healing effect. While these effects are useful, they are held back by several restrictions.

In teams with consistent healers, Wriothesley’s HP is unlikely to fall below 60%, which prevents this passive from activating. This passive can still act as an emergency heal at C0 in case Wriothesley receives too much damage.

There Shall Be a Reckoning for Sin

4th Ascension Passive

A simple but effective 30% ATK buff. This passive further incentivizes using Wriothesley’s Burst at the end of his field time.

Depending on what we have written above we will continue with character combinations that will suit Genshin Impact Wriothesley team the most.

As for the constellations. Wriothesley’s C6 is his highest damage increase, as his enhanced Charged Attacks now hit twice and receive substantial CRIT buffs. Each hit of the enhanced Charged Attack has a separate ICD, which allows both hits to trigger Melt assuming sufficient Pyro application. You’ll need C6 to get all previous constellations as well.

Genshin Impact Wriothesley Team Comp Options

There are several roles that all characters obtain in Genshin Impact. Your perfect team would consist of the Main DPS, 2 SUB-DPS characters and one Support. Main DPS is occupied by a character that can deal a decent amount of damage from all sources, auto attacks, elemental reactions and elemental bursts. Sub DPSs are needed to activate reactions that boost the main DPS’ damage or deal some extra damage while the main DPS is sticking their elemental burst. Support can vary typically it is a healer/shielder, but in some cases, it can be a battery (the character that stacks elemental burst for the team) or a spreader (the character that can spread reactions activated by all the characters).

Wriothesley is a classical main DPS character. There are many builds that can show the whole potential of Wriothesley but we will show only some of them. You can follow the logic and change characters in the teams depending on what character you obtain. Also, you will see the f2p Wriothesley team and find a link to another post where we explain what other characters match Neuvillette and why.

Genshin Impact FREE TO PLAY Wriothesley team

This playstyle revolves around buffing Wriothesley’s damage with synergistic supports, particularly other Cryo characters to enable Cryo Resonance. Anemo units are also preferred to provide VV Shred and grouping. A Hydro flex can be used to enable Freeze, which provides extra survivability and helps keep enemies grouped up.

The BEST Wriothesley team

Wriothesley can constantly use Cryo , which is useful for Elemental Reactions such as Freeze. For Freeze Teams, pick Yelan, she suits Wriothesley’s play style very well, triggering Frozen with practically every hit. Shenhe can provide DMG support for Cryo characters. Zhongli’s shields are formidable and can negate interruption with Res Shred.

Reverse melt Wriothesley team

A sustained off-field Pyro application is necessary for consistent Reverse Melts, particularly for Wriothesley’s C1+ enhanced Charged Attacks. This usually means bringing Bennett and either Xiangling or Jean. Nahida (via Burning) can be used to supplement slower methods of off-field Pyro application such as Thoma’s Burst or Dehya’s Skill. Try to avoid touching enemies affected by Burning since it deals damage to the on-field character.

It is very difficult to trigger Cryo Swirls for VV Shred while off-field Pyro application is active. Swirling Cryo before deploying Pyro abilities results in poor uptime on 4pc Viridescent Venerer RES Shred, so Anemo units may not be as practical in this archetype.

Hyperbloom Wriothesley team

Nahida, Kuki Shinobu, and Xingqiu create a powerful off-field Hyperbloom core that dishes out high damage. Xingqiu can be substituted with either Yelan or Kokomi, though they reduce the amount of Dendro Cores generated. Kokomi also allows Kuki Shinobu to be replaced with Raiden.

Top Genshin Impact Characters to Play with Wriothesley

How to make a personal Genshin Impact Wriothesley team?

If none of the listed above you don’t like or you don’t have some characters mentioned in Wriothesley teams you can really on the following tips. They will help you understand the main approach when you make a comp to play with Wriothesley.

  • At C0, a healer is recommended to offset Wriothesley’s HP drain and keep his HP above the 50% threshold needed for his Skill. While not necessary at C1+, healers are still a safe choice.
  • Shielders or interruption resistance buffs are much appreciated to prevent him from getting staggered; in particular, getting interrupted before his final Normal Attack hits can prevent his C1 from taking effect.
  • Wriothesley’s long, uninterrupted field time requirement encourages teammates with long-lasting buffs and off-field damage, along with short field time requirements of their own.
  • Wriothesley’s short range makes teammate abilities that are mobile or have very large AoEs much more valuable. Unfortunately, many of his best teammates such as Bennett, Shenhe, or Diona do have restrictive AoEs (aka “Circle Impact”); be mindful about positioning and enemy behavior if using such units.
  • Cryo teammates help reduce his ER requirements and (outside of Reverse Melt teams) enable Cryo Resonance.

Keeping these tips in mind you will definitely find your way to play Wriothesley, note that now we use tips from here.
