My Time at Portia Fishing Guide

This post contains all the information that you need to know about fishing in My Time at Portia. We have spent a lot of time creating this Portia Fishing Guide. So it contains information about fishing tools, fishing skills (from Portia skill tree), types of fish and where to catch it. Moreover, you will know what recipes have fish as an ingredient.

What do you need to fish in Portia

It is very easy to learn how to fish in Portia. But before that, you need to collect some things to start. First of all, you’ll need to craft a fishing rod. The first recipe you get almost at the beginning of the game when Qiwa asks you to craft fishing rode for him. The Mission is called: The Fishing Rod and it is a secondary mission, so be attentive not to skip it. You may, also, see the recipe for it before getting the quest.

Besides, a fishing rod you will, also, need Caterpillars. The more the better if you will fish frequently. You can get Caterpillars in My Time at Portia from gathering mainly. Such plants as herbs, bamboo papaya, snake berry or any other gathering plant may drop you a caterpillar as well. They are the only fishing bait, so don’t ignore this Portia Fishing Guide tip: gather everything you see to get as many caterpillars as possible. In another case, you will need to buy them in Sophie’s Ranch for 4 gols (it is 100% price but in My Time at Portia prices can change due to economic changes).

How to craft a fishing rod in My Time at Portia

To craft Beginner’s Fishing Rod you will need Worktable Level 1 to craft it on and a Stone Furnace to craft the parts for it.

Beginner’s Fishing Rod materials:

  • 15 wood (get it from logging, you will need an axe)
  • 2 wild cocoon (get it from kicking particular trees)
  • 1 copper bar (melt 3 copper ore on Furnace, that you get from the quarry)

This type of fishing rode won’t give you much help in fishing. So if you want to get a better catch or to fish for rare fish species you should craft a Classic Fishing Rod. To craft it you will need Worktable Level 2, Grinder and Industrial Furnace to craft the parts for it.

Classic Fishing Rod materials:

  • 3 bronze pipe (craft it with a Grinder from 2 bronze bars)
  • 2 wild cocoon (with a bronze axe you can also get it from logging)
  • 1 manganese steel bar (melt 4 iron ore and 1 manganese ore on an Industrial Furnace)

The difference between these two fishing rodes is not only in their quality. Classical rod gives you more stability and makes the process of fishing much easier. So we recommend you craft it as soon as possible if you want to fish more effectively. Besides, it will help you much during My Time at Portia Fishing Day that hits every year in spring on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th. To learn more about that event just follow the given link.

How to get a Master fishing rod

This one is a specific fishing rod that you cannot craft. You can only obtain it by completing special terms. The possibility to get it opens when you will build Portia Museum (follow the link if you want to know what it is and how to build it). As a Portia Fishing Guide is so long we cannot tell you about it ourselves here.

When the Museum is ready you will need to donate to it all types of emperor fish from each of the thirteen fish species. Those are:

  • Catfish
  • Frog Fish
  • Golden Salmon
  • Goliath
  • Banner Fish
  • Bubblefish
  • Lantern Fish
  • Koi Fish
  • Firefish
  • Blade Fish
  • Wise Fish
  • Gladiator Fish
  • Blue Mackerel

You will know that you got an emperor fish because it will start with the “emperor” label and it will be much harder to catch that simple one.

After you donate one emperor fish of every species you will get your mater fishing rode the very next day in your mail.

How to fish in My Time at Portia

After obtaining the desired fishing rod and bait go to the nearest fishing spot to learn fishing. You don’t require any specific skill to start only your skills as a player. Put a fishing rod on your character’s tools’ panel and keep your caterpillars in the inventory. If everything is right at the fishing spot you’ll be able to press “E” our any other bind you have to start fishing. Note: the chance to catch fish is 92% while the chance to catch any other item is 8%.

Every cast you make takes you 6 stamina points, so you may consider taking some food with you. When you see a red question mark it means that you hooked a fish, after that starts the interesting part. Now you need to start reeling – press the mouse button (or the control you see as a hint). Reeling will increase the tension which is indicated by the red bubble within the white bubble.

Hold the control to reel the line. You will see how your bubbles become red. Don’t let it fill in all red! That will cancel your fishing and the fish will go away. So the point is to reel while the bubble still has transparency following the fish trail.

You will, also, see numbers on the screen that shows how many meters are left before you get the fish from the water. That basically all you need to know about the process of fishing in My time at Portia itself. But further in the Portia fishing guide, we will tell you how to make this process easier.

Skills that help to fish in My Time at Portia

In the game, your character has a skill tree. It consists of three branches: fight, gather and social. Therefore, skill related to fishing is in Gather skills. It is called Fish Encyclopedia. Basically, it helps only to identify fish before fishing. Sometimes it is useful if you need some particular species. But further in Portia Fishing Guide, we will tell you about all fishing spots in Portia.

So to get Fish Encyclopedia skill as soon as possible and get profit for your fishing from other skills you need to spend your skill points in the following order:

  • First, put all 5 points in Lucky Me skill. That will increase your chance to get more fishing bait faster.
  • Then put 4 skill points in Power Up skill. That will increase your maximum stamina so you will be able to fish longer without eating.
  • One more skill put in any of the following skills Advanced Lumbering, Advanced Mining, Lively. None of them influence fishing much.
  • And after spending these 10 skill points you can finally get Fish Encyclopedia skill.

All other skill points you can spend whatever you like as they don’t influence the fishing process itself.
