I’m already playing through the second scenario for beginners in The Sims 4. Last time I chose the easy but long scenario “Power Couple” and you can find it in previous videos or posts. This time I’m playing a scenario for beginners, but with progressive tasks. It is more dynamic and has more endings. But it’s also more buggy, because every time I play through it, it gets buggy at the stage of giving out rewards.

Living in their shadow is one of the proposed scenarios for beginners that introduce the player to the Sims 4 gameplay in an interesting way. You will be offered to play as a ready-made character, Nova Curious, and complete the scenario which has as many as five endings.
Nova is a young girl who wants to become the best programmer in her company. This is the main condition that the system fulfills by itself. It will also assign you a pre-created rival in life, Lewis. Now it’s up to you to decide how their struggle for a place in the sun will end.
The story has five possible endings:
It doesn’t detail how exactly you have to finish the game to get a particular ending. In my first walkthrough, I wanted to get the ending “Enemies to Lovers” and I succeeded. For the video, I wanted the same ending, but it didn’t work out because the system assigned Nova and Lewis an incompatibility in communication and no matter what I did, they quarrelled and refused to reconcile.
But let’s start from the beginning. You choose where to settle, but you play as Nova. In addition, the taskbar will be updated depending on your activity, it is located in the upper left corner. There are main tasks and additional tasks. After completing the main tasks, your progress is updated and the game gives you new tasks to complete the scenario.
To begin with, you should choose a career as a programmer. Thanks to the system’s predefined perks, you start your career not from scratch, but from the 4th position Ace Engineering. Complete introductory tasks and try to get your first promotion.
The general advice here overlaps with the career advancement tips described for the Power Couple scenario. Be sure you are doing all the extra work and have the appropriate skill levels. Come to work with a confident attitude and remember to have a good relationship with your coworkers. Please note that programming is a mental skill, and to avoid burnout, you should combine it with sports or creativity.
But the endings of the scenario are no longer dependent on your career, but on the storyline you follow. From time to time, you will have a choice, and depending on what you choose and how you act, you will be drawn to that ending.
It all starts with a call from Lewis, who will once again spur you on to the career race. From there, Nova’s fate is in your hands. I should note right away that quitting your programming career won’t trigger the “Quitting the rat race” ending. The system will still force you to return to your programmer career and continue the scenario.
So, to begin with, focus on raising and upgrading the relevant skills. And then build a relationship with Lewis as you see fit. I’ve come to the conclusion that at first, this has almost no effect on the course of the game.
The turning point occurs when Lewis is fired from his job. You will have many options for communicating with him. I preferred the option of seduction and rapprochement, but Lewis didn’t fall for it, so I had to try to make them friends for a very long time and tediously. Because after I invited Lewis to my place and allowed him to stay overnight, the system gave me only two options: to become friends or to fall in love. I could do neither that night. So then I had to make up and become friends with him. It was hard work, because Lewis reacted unpredictably to any attempts by Nova to find common ground.
I realized that he wasn’t such a valuable guy to hang around and seduce, so if the system wanted us to, we’d become friends, but that’s it. Nova has her own ambitions and her own life – she will find someone who deserves her! This is exactly the wish she made in Konorebi.
The script seems to hang at this point and gives us the opportunity to live our own lives, separate from Lewis’s constant suggestions. So Nova has found new friends and the love of her life. It turns out that another of her colleagues is widowed and lives right next door. Nova consoled his life with her attention and started coming to take care of his two children. Before they knew it, they had fallen in love. Eventually, Christopher very unexpectedly proposed to Nova, and they got married in the town hall without delay. Not long after, Nova told Christopher the good news that he was going to be a father for the third time!
By the way, did you know that in Tortosa you can get married in the town hall without any ceremonies? I didn’t know, and now it’s my favourite kind of wedding. It is located in the city centre near the beaches.
And what about Lewis? Well, he could definitely envy Christopher now, but he has what he deserves – a life without the wonderful Nova.
Due to purely technical issues, in this scenario the game often glitches and doesn’t give out rewards. But then, after you re-enter the game, it does show which ending you got and gives you the appropriate rewards. This time I got the ending “Dream Chaser” because I didn’t give up on my goal and didn’t get too close to the bully and henchman Lewis.
