There are seven elements in Genshin Impact that form gameplay. The game is based on elemental reactions and different combinations that support your fighting performance. Hydro is one of the first active elements added to the game. This post will tell you how the Hydro element works in Genshin Impact.
What element is Hydro?
Geo is a supportive element that mainly provides you with shields and defence. Hydro triggers reactions with all other six elements. Below you can see the Hydro resonance effects and all Hydro reactions.
It is also worth knowing about the distinguishing symbols of the Hydro element. This is the icon and the colour. We will use them in this and future posts to denote the Hydro element.
Also, each element in Genshin Impact has its own zone and archon. The homeland of the Hydro element is Fontaine and the name of the archon is God of Justice.
Hydro Resonance
Elemental Resonance activates in Genshin Impact when you have at least two characters with the same active element. Depending on the element it activates the relevant resonance and specific bonuses. The Hydro Resonance is the following:
Soothing Water: Affected by Pyro for 40% less time. Increases Max HP by 25%.
This makes Hydro Resonance useful for tanky melee teams and characters that scale from maximum HP.
Hydro Reactions
Each element in Genshin Impact has specific elements reactions that determine its gameplay options. Different carriers of the corresponding element use it differently, which also affects the style of play, but the reactions themselves have certain invariable effects regardless of the game character.
Hydro has Elemental Reactions with all other elements. The effects are the following:
Electro-Charged: Deals Electro DMG and high Poise Damage over time to all nearby targets with the Wet status.
Frozen: Immobilizes the target. Hitting a Frozen target with a Blunt Attack will cause Shattered, dealing Physical DMG.
Vaporize: Deals ×2 Hydro DMG when a Hydro attack triggers the reaction.
Swirl: Deals Non-AoE Hydro DMG while spreading the Wet status to nearby enemies.
Crystallize: Creates a Hydro shard. Picking it up creates a Hydro shield around the character.
Bloom: Creates a Dendro Core that explodes after 6 seconds, dealing AoE Dendro DMG.
Hyperbloom: Triggered when applying Electro to a Dendro Core. Transforms the Dendro Core into a homing Sprawling Shot that deals increased AoE Dendro DMG in a much smaller AoE.
Burgeon: Triggered when applying Pyro to a Dendro Core. Detonates the Dendro Core immediately, dealing increased AoE Dendro DMG.
Wet Status
Wet itself does not have any special effects; it is simply considered the application of Hydro. However, being affected by Wet allows Hydro Elemental Reactions to occur.
Any source of Hydro DMG will apply Wet. It will also be applied during rain and upon coming in contact with bodies of water.
Some of the upcoming Genshin characters can be Hydro as well. You can find the list of upcoming characters in Genshin Impact in our post – All Genshin Impact Characters Release Dates.
Since early childhood, I was fond of gaming. I played Doom 2, Red Alert 2 and, of course, The Sims. I grew up but my passion didn’t go away. So now I am writing about the stuff I love the most: video games!
