Gameplay – ReversiQuest2 Review
ReversiQuest2 is a Singleplayer JRPG with unique Turn-Based Combat system based on Reversi. The gameplay is divided into two parts. The first one is an exploration of a location, which you will see as a board table and your hero will appear as a figure on it. Locations are full of surprises and let the player choose his own way to the final spot. So if you want to explore all the location and find all the hidden secrets you might need to return there many times!
The second part is combat. The combat goes on the reversi terms, but everything is a bit more complicated than that! Each battle has its own map with different tiles and objects on them. Moreover, instead of usual disks you and your opponent will have pawns. Those are special figures with their personal abilities. Some of them deal damage to your opponent, others heal. In addition, there are those that give mana for the spells. Also, you can get victorious even without filling the major part of the battlefield into your colours. You can get the victory by decreasing opponents HP to 0. Besides, pawns of your colour you can equip with special items to influence their characteristics and level them up. That will help you make more diverse and collect a unique combination of your pawns!
Graphics and Controls
Besides, ReversiQuest2 has outstanding old-school pixel graphics. Each unit has a very detailed picture, moreover, locations are unique and have a lot of tiny details on the map! Old JRPG lovers will like it for sure!
Further, in ReversiQuest2 review, we write about controls in the game. It is brilliant in exploration and in battles. The weak spot of the game is the in-game menu. There is no inventory window, but only horizontal scrolling. Also, inconvenience occurs when changing equipment for pawns as there you won’t find the whole list of owned equipment only the stuff you don’t use.
Sound and Narrative
You will hear a plenty amount of old-school musical compositions, that will perfectly complement the atmosphere of the game.
The narrative is pretty interesting, even though it is Linear. You will play for Nym, a young lad, who is trying to save the unknown girl Imogen. After defeating the goblins who attacked her, he gives her first aid and decides to escort her back to the city. And as it usually happens in JRPG their meeting will be the very catalyst for future events. In addition, during their journey, they will find their true destiny!
